Mocking Bird Chicks

Pickle cat first alerted me to the presence of these guys late Tuesday night. There was something in the yard that held his attention beyond food or my attempts to bring him in off the screened in porch. Not a peep to be heard so I did not give the matter much more thought after collecting the cat.
Come morning I knew what I had from the frantic activities of the mocking birds. Not only had their chicks hopped their nest but they were stuck in a yard drain. I scooped the birds out and took a few snaps of the unfortunate guys. The parent mocking birds attacked me so I moved off.
While I was pondering what to do both chicks took off hopping at a pretty good pace. One parent mocking bird would land nearby and the chicks would hop in that direction. By Wednesday evening the chicks were still on the ground but I could only guess their location from the flights of the parent birds and sounds of the chicks.
I could hear the chicks calling this evening but the sounds were now coming from up in a cypress tree. Think that's a good sign. They seemed pretty strong. I'd like to think so.
Feline Friday here tomorrow.

This is amazing!!! I LOVE that photo, it is simply perfect. :) I am smiling because we had a similar adventure with Elvis and some robin chicks this past week. It was what seemed like their first flight from the nest, and where did the land? Right under Elvis's pear tree. He loves baby anything, but to have as a new friend, not a new meal. LOL.
Birds don't believe that his intention is to play, so he was attacked a good bit when he tried to touch the baby. No bites, just some dive bombing thank goodness. I wish you could see him with small creatures, you would be amazed at how gentle he is. :)
It's wonderful to see how the feathers grow. So much detail and knowledge in this one. This is brilliant, you even got a snail close at hand. I love this and I hope they're ok.
Had a chuckle at Pickle and his ball, that expression does say 'this is mine' :)
