Swallowtail: Above & Below

I've never been this close a swallowtail before. Plenty of wing wear on this one. When a swallowtail is in motion it's hard to gauge the size of the wings. At least six inches from wing tip to wing tip. If this butterfly had not pulsed it's wings I never would have noticed it.
I had walked right by the swallowtail so I risked walking by it again to where I could angle a shot in from below. I was impressed as swallowtails are on my hard to photograph list. After I took a few shots from below the swallowtail flew off.

Ohh Gorgeous!
I was trying this week for several belly shots of the butterflies at the conservatory, I love how the underwig sometimes looks nothing like the outside of the wing. With some, it's almost like getting two butterflies for the price of one. :)
