Swallowtail in Flight

Swallowtail in flight
A swallowtail in flight! Not exactly sure which type of swallowtail it is, but it may be a Black Swallowtail. Turned out to be a butterfly afternoon as I also photographed four other types of butterfly. I'll upload those on a rainy day which might be this weekend. Bummer.

I was using burst mode following the butterfly upward. My starting meter reading had no sky in it and so when I followed the butterfly up, the sky colors got funky. Butterflies look nothing like I expected in flight so I'm surprised with each attempt. I have other shots in flight from today and none look the same.

Don't really have a solution with metering and burst mode. Something for the mix I guess as I'm getting better at following a moving butterfly. Burst mode speeds my camera up between shots which does make my timing feel easier. Thinking I should just be mindful of the moving, unfolding scene I'm trying to follow with my lens.

So much depends on the butterfly...

He's wonderfully velvet, I like the tear drops on the end of the wings. Quite clear for in-flight. Rache xx

Butterflies in flight are so hard to photograph...great job on this one! Just awesome. Stop by and visit my Hummingbird medley...birds in flight are not so easy to capture either...but I think I got a couple of shots you might enjoy.

that's a Giant Swallowtail (papilio cresphontes). P.S., outstanding photo! where did you take it?
